Typodarium 2012 features two typefaces by Em: Ziti and Riba.

Even if both the typefaces were designed in order to create “handmade” sample images, they proved to work very well in print as well.

During our first trip to Munich in August 2005 we had no chance to take pictures of this sculpture hanging in one of the five courtyards of the Fünf Höfe complex by Herzog & De Meuron.

This August we were able to snap some pictures with the iPhone camera, whose limited field emphasizes how the sphere is compressed in the limited space of the courtyard.

When we checked in at Hotel Puerta América, the hall of our room floor was enchanting, being sinuous in its form and calm in its whiteness.

But the moment we left the room for dining at night, we discovered how the ever-changing chandelier colored light turned the space into a very dynamic experience.

This minimal lamp prototype fitting the sharp corner of an exhibition space in Ventura Lambrate could have been hard to notice.

But as usual we were attracted by the cold neon light like moths to a flame.

The actual size of the Leviathan installation was clear only when entering the main exhibition hall of the Grand Palais.

What from the inside seemed a limited space protruding indefinitely in the gallery, turned out to be a huge three-headed purple blimp gently laying on the floor.

Our appreciation for the work of Anish Kapoor and the press release about the Monumenta exihibition at the Grand Palais were enough to make us plan a weekend in Paris on the fly.

At first we were surprised that it was possible to enter inside the inflated sculpture, and we lingered long in the unusual space in spite of the pressurized air and the rumbles and echoes.

Then, the moment we were going to exit, the sun came out of the clouds, and we realized how the minimal form of the contemporary installation was deeply able to relate with the iron vaults and steel framing of the Grand Palais.

As last month Cisco announced the closing of the Flip business, we would like to pay homage to the Flip Ultra that we’ve been using for a couple of years to shot most of our videos.

The Flip Ultra was bought by Em as a gift to Gi on an American on-line store, as the Flip products were not fully distributed in Europe yet.

We had our share of fun with it.

We were hypnotized for a while by the swinging movement of the two pendulums drawing on a roll of paper.

When the pendulums gradually slowed down and stopped, we wondered which extraordinary mechanism would restart the movement.

But soon a handsome Danish man entered in the room and restarted the pendulums with the sheer force of his arms.

On a sunny Saturday, trying to take pictures of the opera house without framing people was a thankless job.

Yet seeing the abstract white slopes of the roof swarming with life was a delight.
