Velodrome and Olympic Swimming Pool – Berlin
17-09-10
Two basic volumes, a cylinder and a parallelepiped, covered in steel meshes and sinked in a low-raised plateau, is all that can be seen from outside of this complex extending several floors underground.
The complex with the surrounding park looked abandoned in August–indeed it was closed for a couple of weeks for maintenance–and it seemed to echo the failure of Berlin to be picked as host city of the 2000 Olympic Games.
Yet it preserves the strenght and the frankness of the planning concept intact.
